Phil Fernandez (chant et guitare) et Bala Pradal (claviers) fondent Big Dez en 1996.Ils passent alors l’essentiel de leur temps à répéter dans une cabane en banlieue parisienne où ils jouent un répertoire constitué de reprises de blues anglais et américain. Renforcé par Lamine Guerfi (basse), Marc Schaeller (harmonica), Stéphane Miñana (batterie) et Rodolphe Dumont (guitare), le combo écume les bars de Paris et sa périphérie pendant quelques années puis voyage aux États-Unis (Chicago, Austin, St Louis) où il liera de solides amitiés avec les musiciens locaux.
Sous l’impulsion de Phil Fernandez, le groupe se met à composer et part enregistrer son premier album, Sail On Blues, à Austin Texas en 2003. Quatre autres suivront : Night After Night (Austin Texas 2004), You Can Smile (Jamestown MO, 2007), Late Live "pris" sur divers concerts européens en 2009 et Lazy Star (Anjou, France, 2010).
En février 2009 le band, parrainé par Blues Sur Seine, part représenter la France à Memphis Tennessee dans le cadre de l’International Blues Challenge. Habitué des festivals européens, le blues électrique de Big Dez est très tonique, plein d’humour et de mélancolie. Très varié, imprégné de funk, de soul et de rock’n’roll, son style est unique.

Guitarist-singer Phil Fernandez and keybordist Bala Pradal formed Big Dez in 1996.They spend most of their time rehearsing in a garage in the suburbs of Paris playing English and American blues.
Re-inforced by bassist Lamine Guerfi, harmonisist Marc Schaeller, drummer Stéphane Miñana and guitarist Rodolphe Dumont, the band has for years been smoking the bars of the Paris region, as well as touring the USA (Chicago, Austin, Saint Louis) where they have formed solid relationships with the local musicians.
Following the impetus of leader Phil Fernandez, the group recorded their own compositions on their first album Sail On Blues, in Austin, Texas in 2003. Four other albums would follow: Night After Night (Austin Texas 2004),You Can Smile (Jamestown MO, 2007), Late Live, mostly live recordings from their 2009 european tour, and Lazy Star (Anjou,France ,2010).
In February, 2009, with the sponsorship of Blues Sur Seine, the band represented France at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn. Veterans of the European festival circuit, the electric blues of Big Dez is stimulating; full of both humor and melancholy. With rock, soul and funk influences, the style is diverse and unique!
